Ice by Anna Kavan
5.0
The premise of this book is simple, a man propels himself across a dying world chasing a woman he used to love while ice slowly consumes the world. However this book is so much more, effortlessly exploring themes such as life and death, love and war, identity and expression; all in less than 200 pages. Anna's descriptions are feverish, her imagery hallucinatory, painting the protagonist in shades of madness and despair - but her vision in this novel is always crystal clear, the symbolism cold and profound. One of the best literary books I've read in a long time.
