Openly Straight by Bill Konigsberg

Oh my god I absolutely loved this book! It was so freaking good? The characters were absolutely perfect and the whole plot as well as the writing style made it impossible for me to put this book down.
The characters were all beautifully created, especially Rafe our chaotic gay main character who is struggling with a new life and sweet little closeted Ben who is literally the sweetest person to exist. Sure Raf can get a bit annoying when he doesn't seem to get how privileged he is but that makes him a morally gray character whom I stan.
I also really loved the nerdy friendship between Toby, Rafe and Albie - IT GAVE ME LIFE!
I completely got the point that this book was trying to put across. It can get very exhausting when your entire existence is defined by a single label despite the fact that you're much more than that. And sometimes you just feel like chucking that label away and starting afresh. I am actually in the same position at this point in my life as I am about to start at uni and Openly Straight has given me a perspectie on how it's okay if you want to stray from the your labels but in the end you can't really change who you are at your core, what your identity is. I sincerely value this lesson and wish that every teenager gets to read and understand this.
