The Kind Worth Killing by Peter Swanson

"Holy fucking shit." That was what I said out loud to myself after reading the final lines in this book. This is a phenomenal adult thriller and I'm so glad I decided to pick this one up! I absolutely love a good adult psychological thriller, it's one of my favorite genres and this one has become a new favorite of mine! This book follows a man named Ted Severson who has recently discovered that his wife Miranda is cheating on him with this guy named Brad. Ted randomly meets this woman in the airport named Lily and he tells her all about his life, and he jokingly tells her that he wants to kill Miranda for what she did, and Lily tells him he should do it. I obviously can't say much about this story without giving it away, but this is an amazing story filled with some really crazy fucked up characters and I loved every second of it. I found this book really difficult to put down and there were so many plot twists, my jaw hit the floor so many times. I didn't see any of them coming either which is so rare for me. I love how this book is separated into three parts, and each part feels like it's own book. If I had to compare this book to another book it would be The Girl on The Train, but dare I say I think I enjoyed this one more than The Girl On The Train? This book also really reminded me of the tv show Fargo, which was an awesome kick-ass show by the way.
just because of the way one person can manipulate people into committing a crime they would have never committed otherwise. Lily is the Lorne Mavlo of this story!

The third part of this book was probably my least favorite of the three, but it was still very intense and action packed. The ending left me absolutely stunned and in shock and I was like: what the fuck AKSLJDLAKJSLA. But I love when a book does that to me. I seriously feel so giddy right now thinking about how awesome and crazy this story was. I love when a book has insanely fucked up characters that you can't help but root for.
I loved the back story on Lily's character, seeing how she killed Chet and threw his body in the well on her family's land. Chet was disgusting. I also enjoyed the scene where Lily found out that her boyfriend Eric was cheating on her with Miranda and so she put nuts in his food and he had an allergic reaction and died. She obviously had a background of being a killer and being sneaky and getting away with it, so when she comes across Ted in the bar, it makes sense that she would encourage him to kill his wife. When Ted died in the first part of this book I was like HOLD UP WTF I didn't expect him to die so soon. I was so shocked. Then we change perspectives and get to see Miranda's POV and we learn she was plotting to kill him and take his money the whole time. That gold digging whore. Poor Ted. Anyways, I was so interested in this second part of the book where it's Lily vs. Miranda and Brad is kind of caught in the middle. I love the way Lily was able to manipulate Brad so easily into once again committing a crime he probably never would have committed otherwise. Brad is just really easy to manipulate I guess? That scene was so fucking intense when he actually killed Miranda instead of Lily, I don't know why I genuinely didn't think he would kill Miranda I thought he would kill Lily and I was like what ASKJDLAKSA. So many times this book took me off guard. The third part was my least favorite because I didn't care for the POV of the detective, and then Lily's POV chapters got really slow in my opinion. But that ending, OH MY GOD. Lily gets caught stabbing the detective and taken into custody and then she gets the letter from her dad saying they are selling the land where the well is (where Chet and Brad are buried) and it just ends like that. ALSJKLAKS. I was so frustrated that it ended right there but I appreciate it at the same time. It's so eerie and perfect to end it right there. Others have pointed out that Lily's father might have discovered the well. There seem to be hints to this - he mentions going out and raking leaves, he wakes up screaming in the night, and he writes in his letter that he loves her no matter what. He may have found Brad's body and is letting her know he supports her and the evidence will be taken care of. That would be even more crazy but I love that this ending is kind of open and we can create our own theories about it. Those are my favorite kind of endings to be honest.
I can't say much about the story - I think it's better if you go into it without knowing a whole lot like I did, but if you like adult thrillers then i definitely recommend checking this one out!
