I had never heard of this book until I picked it up in the bookstore and was super intrigued by the blurb. The Emperor's Babe is unique in so many ways- setting, structure, themes.
I'm conflicted about the poetic structure of this novel. The longer chunks that contained plot and dialogue got a little boring at times, but the shorter poems were so beautiful and impactful.
