This is definitely the horniest of the Dune books. I must admit, I was unprepared for some of what I read. In terms of tone, this feels like a departure from the previous books, yet it builds extensively on what came before. I love the additional world-building in this story, as well as the complex relationships between sex, religion, and genetics. And after so much focus on the male political and religious figures of the previous books, it's refreshing to see the women take control - not that there weren't strong female characters earlier in the series, but they are certainly more present and powerful in "Heretics". Plus, that ending was unexpected, but totally worth it and I can't wait to see what comes next.
