Reads quickly and easily but manages to pack a punch. Hopeful. Some very sad events, written about in hindsight from the stabilized future. Our narrator has perspective. Tone is matter-of-fact; she doesn't shy away from the tragedy but neither does she glamorize it. And she devotes time to the good parts too.
Really love the cover. Caught my eye in the pile and I admired it often while reading the book (when it was sitting on the coffee table, etc, rather).
Enjoyed the bits about New York (literary) life. Sort of orthogonal to the sisters/family plot but helped fill in the world and colored the tone somewhat. And also I just get a kick of out that sort of stuff. The diners and cafes and the thrifted clothes and the meeting for lunch or dinner or breakfast.
