I had a lot of fun with Bianca and Ian. They have known each other for a few years now and have a lot of instances of great banter in the book. Bianca is very intelligent and is revealed to have been experimented on by her late husband. This adds a lot of dimension to her character as we explore her past trauma and how it affects her now. She has a strong need to prove herself. Ian has his own strong sense of duty in his own right and a similarly traumatic past that I think eventually helps them more easily be able to understand each other. Ian feels like a real stick in the mud at the beginning of the story, but as he spends more time with Bianca, he is shown to be very considerate, caring, and concerned for her safety more than anything else. They eventually have a clear sense of respect for one another that makes for a great romantic relationship.
I appreciated getting to know some of the other siblings in this story. Despite his quiet demeanor, Ferdinand was very interesting and Iappreciated the representation of what disability may look like in a future world. Overall, this story had less sex scenes than the first book. The couple was still charming, and the sibling relationships were still strong, so I still really enjoyed it.
