August Heat by Andrea Camilleri
5.0
I had the strange experience of accidentally reading the first couple pages of Wings of the Sphinx before realizing I missed some major developments in THIS BOOK. Spoilered myself.
Salvo has a hell of a time with this summer rental house. Last minute of course. Just when you think it can't get worse, here's another problem. The friend's kid constantly doing stupid things like hiding at the truck stop? Is he trying to confirm Darwin's theory, good lord.
I felt bad for Salvo but then he sure dug himself a hole via his existential struggle with aging as things unfold. The end was a nice twist I somehow didn't expect.
Reading about the heat made me glad it's winter & raining here lol.
