Not Four Children by Stephen Cooper, Stephen Cooper
5.0
You know when you read a collection of short stories, there are some that are amazing, some that are good, and some that are not so good, but overall, the collection gets a 5* review? Well, this isn't one of those. Each of the short stories in this book is easily 5* individually. But as a collection... well, I wish I could give it all the stars.
All four short stories in this book were absolutely brilliant and is proof that children really are little demons (as I read the first one, my almost 2 year old was growling at me and trying to bite my toes).
Holding the baby - a hilarious tale about a father terrified that his new baby daughter is trying to kill him. I was cackling so hard while reading this one.
The Red Stuff - I'm sure we've all got that one movie we watched waaay too young, and we've turned out okay (most of us? maybe?) This story shows the downsides of children watching horror movies too young.
Tidy Your Room - As parents, we've all had this war with our kids. We've all made the threats; what will happen if we have to tidy their rooms for them. This was a very creepy story about a boy who finds a way to permanently solve his problem.
Me First - A story that plays on the fears of those of us who had a new baby years after the first child. Is the oldest going to resent the new baby? Well, this story follows an 11 year old boy who makes it very very clear he doesn't want a new baby sister.
I absolutely loved this book and I desperately need more like this.
