Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock by Matthew Quick
5.0
What I Liked
Leonard Peacock as a character was so believable. Usually the ridiculously intelligent teenage protagonists in realistic fiction drive me bananas, but Leonard reminded me of a couple of kids in my high school - a social outcast, wearing the fedora, a morose sense of humor, just a difficult time in general.
Leonard's reactions at the end were also tangibly real. They brought mist to my eyes and a lump in my throat.
Herr Silverman, Lauren, Linda... the characters stand incredibly off of every page. How can I hate and love these people at the same time?
What I Didn't Like
This book has footnotes on almost every page. It's a unique format, it's clever, but it can get pretty distracting.
