I finished The Broken Earth trilogy and now I don't know how to go on with my life. I loved every single beautiful, heart wrenching second of it. I miss Essun and Nassun. I miss the world. I just wish I could read these books forever. If you're going to dive into this series, I highly recommend you have all three to hand and read them as close together as possible. There is no time for recapping during this journey, because they're jam packed full of characters and action. If you're afraid they'll be too complicated (I've got to admit that's why I put off reading them for so long), just go with the flow. You're not going to understand everything, you've just got to let the books take you on this journey.
