Such a short, slow, sweet and happy little novella. it's told from the perspective of a middle-school age boy that is most likely somewhere on the autism spectrum with his fixation on a woman who works at the grocery store who he calls Miss Ice Sandwhich.
I love Kawakami's ability to portray teenagers in a way that reminds us what it was like for us to be growing up, and realising that not everything that we find cool is also appreciated by others.
You'll finds lots of emotions in this tiny book,
