The Myth of Normal: Trauma, Illness, and Healing in a Toxic Culture by Gabor Maté

5.0

Due to my background and the way I have been raised, I have been always told that I am not normal! and that kept me in wonder. Normal? why I am not normal? and what is normal in the first place?! Such questions started to raise little by little, to the point that I did not ever pay attention to the equation of normal and abnormal anymore.

I used to have a friend who used to tell me every time we argue about the normal myth, that normal is what the average is, and normal indeed is what most people's status is! and that used to leave me in anger questioning myself about the reasons that I am not normal?! or average at least!

However, after reading this book, I came to a realization that what I have always believed in was the absolute truth, and normal is just a myth and has no validity at all, as its definition changes with the changes in society's standards. therefore, I wish I have been educated about all that came in the book a long time ago without me being forced to suffer to come to such a conclusion on my own.

It is a well-written, and must-read book for that ultimate healing and peace.
