Quicksilver by Callie Hart
3.5
Thank goodness for StoryGraph half stars. I enjoyed it more than a 3 star, but didn't find the quality to be a 4 star.
It kept me reading, I finished it in one weekend. BUT I also was sick of the "I'm not like other girls because I drink whiskey and I take care of my little brother and I hate dresses and random strangers taught me how to be an unusually trained sword and dagger fighter for no reason" FMC and the "I'm grumpy because I'm a tortured hero and you're the only one who can make my mouth twitch into a mini smile and I use shadows cus duh" MMC.
But yet, I actually quite liked the setting and the world and the politics. BUT YET, I hated that cliffhanger ending and rolled my eyes so hard I woke my dog up.
So I guess I'm saying to believe all the reviews - both the good and the bad - and take from them what you will. If you're sick of the standard tropes we're seeing in fantasy romance then avoid it. But if you love those tropes, dive in.
