A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin
5.0
A Game of Thrones.

"All that Syrio Forel had taught her went racing through her head. Swift as a deer. Quiet as shadow. Fear cuts deeper than swords. Quick as a snake. Calm as still water. Fear cuts deeper than swords. Strong as a bear. Fierce as a wolverine. Fear cuts deeper than swords. The man who fears losing has already lost. Fear cuts deeper than swords. Fear cuts deeper than swords. Fear cuts deeper than swords."- Arya Stark.

The thing that I absolutely loved about the book was the shades of characters created by George Martin. Cersie's evilness, Jon's goodness, Ned's honesty, Sansa's ignorance, Arya's fierceness and Tyrion's smartness - so many characters yet they all seem to get along significantly well. After watching the series, I knew that the book would be much easier for me to read considering how it's possible to give faces to the characters. Everything that the book says is instantly better than the series. Be it the description of places and people or the depth of knowledge and background behind every house. A book as huge as this should be no problem to read because the language is so simple yet captivating. 780 pages of sheer wonder.

I've always admired few characters in the book and throughout the series and to actually read about them is something else. This book broke my heart again when Ned was beheaded, when Drogo died and Lady was killed. I knew what was coming yet I found myself being taken by surprise by the amount of detail that the author has poured into building this book. I'm going to be picking up the second book this weekend :)

For those who feel intimidated by the size of this book, fear not because even a beginner can finish this with ease. A truly marvelous read.
