Into Thin Air: A Personal Account of the Mount Everest Disaster by Jon Krakauer
4.0
I'm too risk averse to read stuff like this, man, I've looked into the eyes of something I was never supposed to look at. I read a horror book and then watched a monster movie yesterday and this scared me more.
Clear writing, compelling account. Took care to be a moral account insofar as the author was capable. Obviously I was absorbed to read it in 24 hours. Flaws: some criticism seemed inconsistent or off the mark; some political remarks came very obviously from the perspective of a white American writing in 1996. I think the book took a lot of courage to write, and I hope the author feels some degree of catharsis from the telling.
