Cursed Bunny by Bora Chung

3.0

Anton Hur's translation of Bora Chung's Cursed Bunny is a collection of short stories that transcends the realm of the real and ordinary. Terror and laughter gets intertwined in the narrative of these stories to form an eye opening stance at the petrifying growth of capitalism and patriarchal influences in the contemporary world.

The dazzling power of Chung's mind is unmissable, even though not all of her stories stuck with me. The stories are appealing to the subconscious that enables the reader to fall into an abyss of overthinking.

The opening story is "The Head" which managed to capture my attention the most of all, it is not so gentle reminder that flushing away our problems is never the answer of navigating through life successfully. Most of these stories are about women and the horrors that they put up through the course of their loves. Power dynamic struggles, body horror and trauma makes the experience of being a woman in these stories.

I'm reviewing this nearly two months after reading the book and not many of them stayed with me. But what I've understood from Chung's writing is she is entirely capable of blowing the minds of the right reader.
