Guardians of the Galaxy: The Complete Collection, Volume 1 by Dan Abnett, Brad Walker, Carlos Magno, Paul Pelletier, Andy Lanning, Wes Craig
3.0
Well, it does appear to fix one of the problems I have with the newer series. They actually seem to have a storyline that is theirs and theirs alone to deal with. And it actually strikes me as something that would cause the formation of a group. They don't seem to be dropping whatever current event is happening to them in order to become a part of whatever is going on to other teams in the rest of the marvel universe. Which isn't to say they don't crossover to a major event that was going on at the time. But it's a side story. It may be connected to the major event, but it doesn't seem to derail their ongoing plot.
The downside is that we're dealing with a massive cast. Like many reviewers before me, I am familiar mostly with the team line up as presented in the film and the current series. I'm not opposed to the expanded line up. It's just expanding at a ridiculous rate. Every couple of issues, we've got a new character that seems to join the team. And we're not losing any of the previous characters (or their plots). So while all the plot lines are focused on the characters in this title, there's now half a dozen different new characters all with their own character specific plots. And it's not helped that some of these characters are not given much in the way of an introduction. I'm sure people that are more knowledgeable about this corner of the Marvel universe are okay, but rookies like myself left wondering who the new guy is. Every couple of issues.
