A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas

BEST. IN. THE. SERIES. HANDS-DOWN!

Wow! I was not expecting this to be my favorite in the series but it totally is! I feel like Sarah J. Maas vastly improved in her writing skills because unlike the first three in the series, ACOSF had a well-developed and fully fleshed out plot, amazing character development, and better world-building! Now don't get me wrong, the diversity is still lacking, but I think an f/f relationship may be coming in a future book (fingers crossed).

So let us talk about Nesta, AKA the main character in this book along with her love interest who I shall not name because of spoilers. Nesta is probably nobody's favorite character from the original trilogy, but Maas gave her the redemption arc of the century! ACOSF deals with trauma, grief, and overcoming loss while figuring out your place in the world.

Content Warnings for mentions of suicidal thoughts, PTSD and anxiety-like symptoms, alcohol consumption, sexual assault, violence, and kidnapping.

The way trauma and grief were handled in this book was so raw and tangible, and I loved that this book focused less on the relationship aspect and more on finding yourself, making friends, and discovering the meaning of home! The side characters and their friendship is probably one of the best friendships I have ever read about, and I will probably never be able to put into words how much I loved reading about them!

Maybe I am being a bit bias since I read this book leading up to my surgery as a way to make myself happy and take my mind off of things, but I did really love this book and it made such an emotional impact on me! I cried (multiple times) and I laughed and smiled and felt that I was healing along with Nesta! And overall, I will never be able to not give this book praise for what it did manage to do. But no, this book is not perfect. Sarah J. Maas is not perfect. But what this book did do, it did very well!

If you even mildly enjoyed the original trilogy, you should definitely give ACOSF a try because I think it was miles better than the previous books!!
