This is one of the best books on (predominately) gay history I've read in a while. There's so much information in here and it never gets tedious or overly complex. This isn't some dry scientific text on disease and it's not some fluffy little think peace. It somehow manages to give a more concise breakdown on what happened than I've personally ever heard. I also think that this book managed to help explain the generational trauma a lot more. As someone who was born in the 90's I thought I had a vague idea of the scope of the situation - our government left us to die, how misinformation spread, that almost an entire generation of gay men was wiped out. But survivor's guilt wasn't something that I thought about. It's a humbling experience and it's given me a newfound appreciation for the elders in my own community.
I don't think it's possible to leave this book feeling good but I think it's an important read for anyone who's part of the LGBT community or anyone who's interested in epidemics.
