Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds
5.0
You know those books that you devour in one sitting, that stick in your head for hours while you sit there thinking, This book needs to be talked about more. And then you remember that it's already a really popular book, but you still feel like it needs more recognition? That's this book.
Long Way Down takes place over sixty seconds. So much happens in sixty seconds, and it's heartbreaking from start to finish. Which is understandable; it's about the cycle of gun violence and whether or not Will is going to get swept up in it, or break it. Each floor the elevator stops on adds another perspective, something else for Will to think about, and for the readers, gives a whole new insight to just how much this cycle has impacted Will's life.

The ending hurt. Readers aren't given a clear answer to whether or not Will goes through with his plan or not. And while that's not typically something I enjoy in books, I think it worked really well here, because the whole situation is unsure. While it might kill me not knowing what Will's ultimate decision is, I think it's one of my favorite parts about this book.________________
