I loved this book! I have, however, read a lot of super negative reviews about it so I wanted to throw a blurb here, more for my future self's sake than anybody else's. I don't read historical fiction. I don't read romance novels. Most of what I read is fantasy or sci-fi. I have been stuck in a book-bubble for far too long, and this is one of my attempt's to get out of it. The me today loves this book. I think it's absolutely fabulous. It's about so much more than just a romance or war; it's about family, friendship, love, survival, strength, and women. I found it empowering. I thought it was beautifully written and was moved to tears several times. I also laughed out loud a lot. I do plan on reading many more books of this genre (and others) in the future, and because of the complaints I have read about this work, I'm wondering if down the road I will find this one as good when I compare it to others. Time will tell, I suppose.
