❝ Men want power because it makes them feel good. Women want power because it lets us do things. ❞

⋆˙⟡ Tisaanah was sold into slavery as a child and was determined to buy out her freedom by performing and conjuring silver butterflies and pretty illusions. After the death of the most powerful man in Threll, she escapes to Ara with hopes of joining The Order, a powerful organization of magic Wielders, to help free the enslaved people from the Threllian lords. However, to do so, she must go under the apprenticeship of Maxantarius, a powerful warrior and wielder who despises The Order, and prove herself worthy. ₊˚⊹

just look at how gorgeous this cover is. the writing style is beautiful, and the characters are portrayed in a very detailed and accurate manner. there were a couple of plot holes and moments that dragged on, but that doesn't take away from how great this book was.

⋆˙⟡ 🦋 ˚ Tisaanah is a 'fragmented' valtain who is dedicated and righteous. i loved how driven she was to craft her skills and see her progression throughout the book. she can be naive at times, but it may be because of how firm her resolve was to free her friends in Threll.

⋆.˚ ❝ I had twenty-seven fresh scars that would never let me forget what I was capable of surviving — and I would, I would survive. ❞ 。𖦹

‧₊ 🧺 ˚ Maxantarius/Max is a grump who passionately hates ‘The Order’ but has no choice but to take Tisaanah under his wing and train her to become a skilled wielder. i love how we meet him at his cottage while he is tending his garden ♡

⋆°❀⋆ ❝ Max, please. Otherwise we’d spend half our damn lives saying that ridiculous name.”

Thank the gods. ❞

THE SLOW BURN IS AMAZING. we observe their relationship grow and develop throughout the book, progressing from strangers to a student-master dynamic and eventually becoming friends who value each other’s presence and learn from each other’s unique perspectives. then, as their connection deepens, they finally become lovers.

❝ And, in turn, he quietly memorized me, too. I knew he did, because one day I realized he had long ago stopped asking me how I took my tea and that we mysteriously always had a never-ending stock of raspberries, even though I knew he didn’t like them. ❞

i’m so happy i picked this up again because this book has always been in the back of my mind. i tried reading it twice and dropped it because i couldn’t get past the first couple of pages, which i realized was because i was initially thrown off by how rushed everything was. soo happy i got passed that. also, there are some trigger & content warnings, so please look them up before starting this book. ALSO STAY AWAY FROM THE AUDIOBOOK VERSION .

i know there is definitely a lot more in store for the next book and i can't wait to start it 🌷
