Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid

I really loved this!
I am a sucker for stories told over the course of a single night and so I was immediately drawn to this premise. Because I went into it expecting a single night, some of the flashbacks in the beginning were a little jarring at first but they were necessary context (and sometimes fun little easter eggs to Evelyn Hugo) so in the end it didn’t bother me *too* much.

I also really liked how TJR plays with perspective in this novel! We get little glimpses into many characters lives outside of the main four siblings, Nina, Jay, Hud and Kit. Because this story takes place over the course of 24 hours, we see the way different secondary characters lives can change over the course of one night—the people they meet, the opportunities that happen. I thought it was a really cool way to add some perspective and drive home the idea that this night has the potential to be life changing for many people, not just the Riva family.

Which, speaking of the Riva family: I love them. I love them so, so much. I think I connected most personally with Nina, I feel very similar to her in a lot of ways. But all of the siblings were wonderful to read about and to get to know and I just love how strong their bond is.

Yeah I don’t know. I really enjoyed this one! I think probably I prefer Daisy Jones and Evelyn Hugo *slightly* above this, just personally. But I will literally read anything TJR writes
