The (D)evolution of Us by Morwenna Blackwood

4.0

Morwenna Blackwood's "The (D)evolution of Us" is gripping, raw and intriguing. Set in a small English town, the book has multiple narratives of Cath (through her unfinished novel), Kayleigh and Richard. Each chapter is crucial as it lays each character bare, revealing their choices and circumstances that shape them to be the people they are. Cath, Kayleigh and Richard are bound by a drastic and life-changing circumstance. Cath and Kayleigh and best friends but deal with this in their own manner. The book tackles the subject of mental health and feeling trapped in a manner that is thought-provoking and chilling. There were moments where I had to put the book down, but every page grips you to reach the ending, which was unpredictable and thrilling. This is one of those books that remains with you long after you have finished it. A 4.5 star read.
