Hood Feminism: Notes from the Women That a Movement Forgot by Mikki Kendall
Did not finish book. Stopped at 58%.
DNF it’s 2hr 52 min left out of 6hr 57min on Audible. This book is exceptional. The author may have mentioned at the start the intended audience but I forgot. IMO it seems like it was written for white people that when confronted about racism/sexism/intersectionalism (theirs or others), say something like “I didn’t realize that was [racist/mysogonist]. I didn’t meant it that way. Why don’t you teach me, then?”. The author has done an exceptional job of sharing her experience and getting into the minutiae of her intersectional experience. Hear it in her own voice is even more powerful and I’d recommend. I did not finish for two reasons: 1) again I think this was more so written for an audios that has not considered intersectional feminism, so while well written, it’s kind of preaching to the choir, and 2) it’s exhausting and painful to be in the shoes of a teacher as a POC. But great book, just don’t want to finish.
