Being Henry: The Fonz . . . and Beyond by Henry Winkler

3.0

…so I have never seen the show that the Fonz is from but I know who Henry Winkler is so I guess I’m not the main demographic for this but I saw it was the best goodreads book of 2023 so I gave it a listen.

He is a fantastic audiobook narrator and which makes it even more impressive when you find out he’s dyslexic and seemingly avoids reading at all costs. From this book I’ve learned that he was raised by Jewish German parents who escaped Nazi Germany and were very strict, he is dyslexic which has challenged him throughout his whole life from being perceived as dumb at school as a kid to not reading his scripts and just adlibbing everything he does. I also got the impression he is quite old fashioned and doesn’t understand women as he describes a weird moment acting on stage where he made a woman uncomfortable and he doesn’t understand why. However over all he seems like a very humble, improv talented, friendly guy.
