The story encompasses such a wide variety of characters with all their different backgrounds but it came off as too ambitious. I am now constantly haunted by this one reddit post I saw that decried the abundance of books that contain far too many perspectives all at once that makes it difficult to grow attached to a character, therefore making it hard to care—about the character and the story as a whole. That's what happened here, I think.
