I was looking for some good escapist Christmas reading and this filled the bill. Cozy mysteries are my favorite escapist fare and this one didn’t disappoint. It is set in the early 90s before smart phones or DVDs. The heroine is a mom who works nights and combines child rearing with sleuthing- she works to find out who murdered the owner of the LL Bean-like mail order company located in Maine, while juggling work, cub scouts, pre-school pickups, sick children and visiting laws all while preparing for Christmas. Some things seemed improbable and I didn’t like the callous attitude toward the strangled cat or dog killed by a crazy rifle-wielding homeowner but on the whole it was a good diverting read.
