The Things We Leave Unfinished by Rebecca Yarros
3.0
I had decided that because I am not a fantasy fan, I would try her romance story instead. I’m sad to admit this book was not for me either. This story follows two different storylines that are technically connected. The modern storyline was pretty great, I liked the dynamics and the conflict in the story. The historical side on the other hand was quite muddied, unclear, and historically inaccurate. I also do not think the timelines work whatsoever but I am trying not to overthink that factor. It honestly felt like the whole time Yarros had two shorter stories so she decided to smush them together into one overly long book. Switching between the present and the past was incredibly disjointed because as things unfolded in the past, they were not at all relevant to the present storyline. There were times in the audiobook I was somehow unsure which storyline I was hearing. The highlight of the book was the plot twist at the end of the story that I hadn’t even fathomed would be the case.
