Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
Did not finish book.
3.0
I got to 73% and had to give up.
While well written, this was way too long. Had it been 2 books instead of one, I might have enjoyed the first one. As it is, I had to tediously work my way through most of it before realizing that I would never get through it.
The book itself reminded me of "Les Malheurs de Sophie" by La Comtesse de Ségur, which I read when I was younger. Quite like the French book, each chapter of Little Women is about the girls learning a lesson out of something. Although I quite liked the Comtesse's book, it had a funny element that Alcott's lacks to make it as interesting. Where Sophie's misadventures are often hilarious and can distract the reader from the lesson, the main objective with each chapter in the March girls life is to remind the young girls reading the proper way to live in society and how to be a good Christian. It was alright in the beginning, but hundreds of pages of it becomes tiring quickly.
