These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong

5.0

A masterpiece. I am in love with this book, the characters, the writing, just... EVERYTHING!
As you probably know by now, this story is a Romeo and Juliet retelling based in the 1920s with two opposing gangs and a monster.
I really loved the Easter Eggs (that's what I'll call 'em) in this book that related to the original play! I loved the characters (Juliette is a bad ass and she could shoot me and all I'd say is THANK YOU), I loved the setting, the division of the city, the WRITING (Just amazing), and the frickin' TWISTS.
I read this book while I was in a reading slump, and while I didn't enjoy it as much as I would've I still really enjoyed it! It's dual POV so you kind of get a glimpse into different people's heads, and it's hard to get bored. Chloe Gong's writing is so beautiful, I love it and will probably read any books she writes in the future. I'm a big fan of hers now!
The romance was amazingly executed, and at times it physically hurt me.
Finally, THE ENDING. I CANNOT. On the last page of the epilogue, I was left screaming "WELL WHAT IS IT??" The whole last two chapters was a crazy ride, and I enjoyed every second of it. So, I hope you all have a good day, while I will be sitting here waiting patiently for a sequel :). Good day.
