I’ve been reading this book series because I want to read the book Six of Crows series. (I love books about found family and Six of Crows is on several “best found family” booklists.) However, it’s recommended that you read this Shadow and Bone series before that book. I didn’t really like the first book but I did like this 2nd book more. I think the main reason is Nikolai

aka Sturmhond. He really reminded me of Captain Hook in the show Once Upon a Time who I always loved. I think he brought a lightness and playfulness the previous book was lacking.  I still like Mal and Alina but I also wouldn’t be upset if Alina and Nikolai end up together. Hopefully he reappears in the next book.
