Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson
3.0
3.5* (this isn’t the audiobook I listened to but I couldn’t find the one I listened to on Goodreads)
So this is one of the many books I started and on and off attempted to read but refused to DNF, and not even that I disliked it or anything. I’m just a serial mood reader and abandon books really easily if I get distracted. But anyway, this was one of those books, I started it in 2019… I only just finished it lol. To be fair it was sitting neglected on my shelf for years but then recently I decided to do some of these abandoned books on audio and omg thank god for audio because I finally actually read it. The audiobook got me much more into it with all the thespian effort from the narrator but even then I must say I did struggle with the stereotypical pirate jargon, which I assume started most of the pirate stereotypes. I feel like a movie adaption would be much more fun and I’d follow better than reading it, even on audio. I have seen Disney’s Treasure Planet which is a loose adaption of this book and I liked that but I will watch a more faithful adaptation because I just feel like I kinda kept zoning in and out or I would forget who was who or get lost in the absurd jargon most the time. It was decent, some of it was quite fun and I feel like some of the characters are really cool and interesting but others not so much. Definitely would recommend watching a movie adaptation before reading the book, think it would make it easier to understand what’s happening.
