Something Like Stories: Volume Three by Jay Bell

5.0

The “Something Like...” series dropped onto my radar a few years ago from a free or discounted Audible, and from there I followed this universe for a dozen books, far more than was even expected by Jay Bell. This is the final series of vignettes, two of which I read online over the past year.

I’ll admit I didn’t care for the ending of Something LIke Us at all, which is interesting as it plays so heavily into Something Like Heaven, the latest finale, which I did like quite a bit.

This series will always be a favorite of mine for character as well as plot. It first introduces grounded characters and moves us up and down their timelines every few years. Just as we get comfortable, we age along with them. Other characters’ stories start before or after and merge into those timelines. I did get frustrated in the middle as the series droves over the same, weaker ground, but the ending was terrific.

Special recommendation for Something Like Goodbye, the final tale of the best written character in the series.

Well done.
