The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah
5.0
A well written, emotional and thought provoking story from the perspective that is often unseen; that of the women who were left behind during the war. Not an easy read because even though the story is fictional, the atrocities described happened to real people. It's definitely a solemn reminder of the tragedies, grief and loss of war but also an empowering tale of the strength and perseverance of women.
This story feels very real and definitely pulls you through all of the emotions felt by the main characters. The characters are very well written and it was easy to feel deeply connected to them and everything that they went through. At times the story was so upsetting that I kept reading to find the light at the end of the tunnel and the ending although tragic in many ways also brings a sense of closure. A hard read but also very worth reading.
