Within the Solstice Cages by Sadie Hewitt

5.0

Rating: 5/5 Penguins
Quick Reasons: once again I am here to beg for the next book ASAP; uniquely, creatively, beautifully entertaining; of course my book bae in this read is Death, that tracks for me; WHYYYYYYYYYY?!

HUGE thanks to Sadie Hewitt and R&R Book Tours for the ARC of this title! My review of this book is voluntarily written and in no way altered or impacted by this gesture.

Greer had been swept away by two primordials and she didn't even have the chance to tell Delia that very thing. She didn't even get the chance to say goodbye.

That brought Greer to the third thing she knew with certainty.

She desperately needed to get away from this winged, overly-leathered pigeon.

It's official, Penguins. I am henceforth adding Sadie Hewitt to my auto-buy list. She knows how to craft a story that both breaks AND builds the readerly soul, and I just cannot deny her books that coveted space in this cold Penguin heart any longer!

Fair warning: this book does also end with a cliffhanger...though this time isn't nearly as painful as the last was. Still, I don't have the luxury this time of immediately jumping into the next book, so... Sadie Hewitt better hurry up and get it written, or I might start throwing tuna, and nobody wants to see that! Also...HOW VERY DARE YOU DO THAT to my ship?!?!?!?!?! AGHHHHH. WHY?!

This book is a fair bit darker in concepts than the first of this series, exploring some heavy topics like depression, guilt, substance abuse, *SA, trauma, etc. Please mind the triggers. Sadie Hewitt handled these subjects beautifully and with the poise and respect owed to them. The character growths are both astounding and believable. You will NOT be able to put this down once you start...and you will come out the other side of this read as changed as the characters.

"The end begins with an uprising," Mammon responded and Greer recognized it as the beginnings of the prophecy etched into the columns of the tomb. "On the wings of those who had been sleeping."

Of course...I'm slightly biased. Once again, my book bae for this series is Death and we ALL know by now what that means for me. Alas, I will go down with this ship...and I will do so happily. (Sadie Hewitt, if you're reading this...please don't make it hurt!) I definitely recommend this series to lovers of uniquely crafted worlds, magical beings of all kinds, and epic journeys of the self AND of the world. You don't want to miss out on this series, Penguins--so go pick it up now! But maybe wait closer to the release of book 3... you know...so you don't have to wait so long to move on.
