I think this may be the first true YA fantasy I’ve read in recent years, and it was good! People say it’s a political high fantasy series with a touch of romance. I found that the romance, while not extremely ROMANTIC, was definitely the driving force of the story. The political stakes were kind of meh. I found I was left wanting more when it came to political maneuverings. Things were resolved too easily and without much (or really any) work. MC needs to do X, main character does X easily and everything is resolved quickly. I was a little disappointed with this series, but it was still fun and angsty and everything YA should be.
