Rage: A Love Story by Julie Anne Peters
5.0
YA novels about queer girls are hard to come by, and in a desperate attempt to find some good ones, I splurged and bought seven books that had queer girl protagonists. This book was undoubtedly my favorite out of those seven.
The main relationship in the book is not a healthy one. There is a lot of abuse and manipulation involved, and the book makes a point to present these issues as harmful. I have read several YA books now that present abusive relationships as ideal, and I was glad that this was not one of them. The author also does a good job of showing why Johanna, the main character, keeps going back to the abusive relationship. The topic was handled well and I appreciated how the ending wasn't necessarily a happy one. I definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in reading about queer issues and how queer abusive relationships exist and function.
