This book is listed as being in the Joseph O'Loughlin series but Joe doesn't feature all that much. The main protagonist is DI Vincent Ruiz who Joe assists to regain his memory after being shot, losing a finger and dying, only to be revived. An operation has gone very wrong but all he can remember is a pizza. He sets out to trace his steps and find out what happened. It is all linked to an old case where a young girl was taken and killed. Ruiz has never believed she was dead even though he helped to convict and sentence a pedophile.

This was a surprisingly engaging read and well worth the time.
