Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly
2.75
I read this because it was my sophomore daughter’s summer reading assignment. I’d seen the movie but never read the book. While I’m glad I read the book and it is an important story, I just think this book was trying to do too much. My 15 year old pointed out that she could really tell this was a first time author. I think in trying to tell all the women’s backstories the book just got too bogged down. I think it would’ve been better served focusing on Kathryn from the beginning and then sprinkling in backgrounds of the people she came across. Unfortunately I was confused who everyone was and how they fit together until closer to the end of the book. I’m glad I read this book and it makes me curious what other books have been written about these women.
