Nothing Is Okay by Rachel Wiley
3.0
Everytime I read a new modern poetry book I hate it more and more. Modern "poetry" doesn't look like poetry anymore. It's just a bunch of quotes, unrelated verses or a 12 year old's diary with dramatic personal experiences no one needs to know. Thankfully this one wasn't a bunch of Tumblr quotes but it was a dramatic teenager's diary. The author here was trying to be as dramatic as possible in each and every poem in this book which made the collection less relatable or realistic. She kept exaggerating throughout the entire book especially in "A Plague Of Doubts" omg how annoying and self-pitying this poem was. And "The Opposite Of Up" was a collection of cringy pick up lines, just look at this:
"Do you have a band-aid? Cause I scraped my knee falling for your bullshit."
"Baby, you must be a magician because abraca-FUCKYOU."
"Was your daddy a sewer worker? Cause you are full of shit."
Uhmm, EXCUSE ME ?? Am I in some sort of Facebook page or smth 'cause I don't understand how this is even in a book.
I liked some of the poems though, like "Cooking With Tears" even though it looked nothing like a poem but I just liked its concept. 2 stars for the poetry and another star just because of how perfect the book's cover is.
