The Chemistry of Love by Sariah Wilson
3.0
The main character is brilliant, but an idiot. I really couldn’t stand her stupidity for the first half of the book. What sort of grown woman declares that she is in love with a man she doesn’t even know and insists that he is the only one for her despite the fact that they’ve had only a handful of brief momentary encounters? He didn’t even know her name. When the synopsis said that she was smitten with her boss- the man of her dreams- I assumed she had interacted quite a bit with said boss and therefore actually knew him and had a working relationship with him. Not that he was some guy she has said 30 words to in total and only admired from afar. It was ridiculous.
And it wasn’t just that. She wore an lord of the rings costume to a formal work event? So what if you do not own any other dresses. Certainly a nice pair of pants and shirt would have been better than that? I get that the author was trying to really demonstrate her nerdiness, but there is nerdiness and then there is complete idiocy. And the dress things falls in the latter category.
Despite all of that, I was able to enjoy this book. I really loved Marco.I love how she slowly realized that she loved Marco. I would have preferred her to give up on the idea of “but I’m supposed to love Craig!” way sooner than she really did, but oh well. And the final “expressing of feelings” felt a bit cookie cutter and cliche and overly done. Butttt I still enjoyed it.
And it wasn’t just that.
Despite all of that, I was able to enjoy this book. I really loved Marco.
