The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan
adventurous
mysterious
fast-paced
5.0
With the book being made into a show on Amazon Prime, I figured I'd read the books again. It's been about 13 years since the last time I read it.
The story was just as good as I remember, though oddly enough, Nynaeve isn't as annoying as she was to me the first time around. The story in the book is also a lot more complex and meaningful than the TV show, which isn't surprising, but I was surprised by how much the TV show butchered the ending of the first book. I have an idea of why they went the route they did, but it doesn't really add anything to the show and, actually, makes the main story-line less compelling.
As for the book itself, it's a great example of classic fantasy with a band of regular folks being caught up in something larger than themselves and becoming adventurers and, for the moment, minor heroes. I really enjoy the amount of effort Jordan put into building up the lore of the world in this first book, and that the characters are developed in a way that makes them relatable.
I'm looking forward to reading through the rest of the series again and finally reading the books that I never got to.
