LISTEN TO THE AUDIOBOOK. I cried TWICE in this book PURELY because of the audiobook narrator. To hear the true emotion in her voice, the quiver in the high emotion - THAT'S what got me. Amazing narration.

Writing this review immediately upon completion of the audiobook. Putting it in point form, because my thoughts are too jumbled to write out a comprehensive review.

Things that frustrated me:

- Violet's idea of "I need independence and free will, but yet the actions of others are my fault." So you can have independence and free will but no one else gets the same considerations?
- Violet's idea of "I need all the information for my own freel will and independent choices, but I hold that same information back from others in the name of "protection"." Again, the double standard.
- V and X - V wanted information from him but yet every time they were together it was just all sexy-time and no actual conversation
- The whole BS about the "ask the question". First off, you don't know what you don't know. Enough of the games. The idea of "I make my partner play games to give them information instead of just talking like grown adults" was SENDING ME.

The questions I have:
- what truly is the bigger picture plot here? Just eliminate the venin? Unification of all the peaceful nations? What is it? It feels like we are only looking at the step in front of us, and I have no idea what the destination is. I feel like the reader is just supposed to KNOW what the big play is, and what the intermediate steps are to get there, but it doesn't feel obvious to me. I mean, that's what I assume the big destination is, but I can't think of a time when it is actually discussed.
- okay so we see one big reveal that was hinted at multiple times throughout the first book - the whole "tingly head" and X's second signet. So now should I be reading into every other little tidbit? I feel like the quality of the writing doesn't give me confidence that little breadcrumbs are intentional. Or is the author that much more clever than all of us to know that what is perceived as mediocre writing is actually fooling us all?

Once again, my enjoyment of the reading experience was a 2.5 or 3. I had so many moments of "grow up and act like adults" and "the world doesn't revolve around you, get your head out of your ass". But yet.... I couldn't put it down. I do not understand how it kept me listening. I'm guessing because the plot was moving so quickly and the listening was so easy to do while also engaging in other tasks.

I can't wait to see everyone else's review and the ongoing discussions.

I also have no idea how a series that is planned for five (?) books has such an unknown destination.
