i liked the writing style and the mystery but I really hate like..... every character except hazel

considering she's not a super math genius and more importantly a not super PRETENTIOUS math genius she's the only one who comes across as likable in any way at all. All these people being super brilliant and looking down on the rest of the family but OH!!!! one of them lost his daughter and then after she was dead realized she was Smart In Her Own Way

also the ethics of making a little child memorize your super equation seems really shady to me. that poor little girl for everything she went through in that book. she just needs someone to love her and care for her and listen to her recite her lists of birds!!!

also even if you're adopted cousins you're still cousins
