The Discord of Gods by Jenn Lyons

5.0

This book was everything that I wanted it to be.

I wanted a fast paced, gripping, unputdownable finale and that's exactly what I got. I wanted the full cast of characters all having a chance to shine, and they did. I wanted more worldbuilding and there was plenty. I wanted an exciting, action packed climax; interesting ways of defeating the main enemies; a satisfying ending. Tick, tick, tick.

There were twists and turns to the story, some of which I saw coming and some I definitely did not. I was hooked from beginning to end and resented having to put the book down for essentials such as sleeping and work. The footnotes were the best in the series.

Honestly the only issue I had with the book is that for around the first half we don't actually see a lot of Kihrin, who is after all the main character of the series, and certainly don't see him interact much with the other characters. This is unfortunate as it's the final book, however there are absolutely solid reasons for this and he becomes the focus again in the second half.

Surprisingly the ending did leave certain things open and I really hope that this means Jenn Lyons has plans to return this world. Even if she does not, this is a fantastic ending and A Chorus of Dragons is now among my favourite fantasy series.
