❝And what I feel now isn't anger. [...] But it might be fondness. It might be something like peace.❞

Y'all this was the worst book I've read this year, and that's saying something because I usually stay away from bashing books but like this book was a Design Choice™. Let's start with Skye. Girl—

* I was sick of her OCD being her only plot point and characterization. I didn't think this was fair to her because she could have been so much better than this?? Like I understand the point the author was trying to make but no<3
* Her annoying idolization of her mother to the point where she was like "Omg I understand she wasn't perfect but
Spoiler just because she killed your baby brother doesn't mean...
"
* She was so insensitive to everyone including her best friend?? And Andie was the only one I liked and she acted like s**t but only like twice and Skye literally was the worst friend, I can't.

I could go on but it's Burke's turn.

* Hated him, lmao
* The whole relationship between him and Skye was unbelievable because it literally was just obsession and codependency ???
* Again he deserved better in terms of characterization because he was so one-dimensional and his thing was just being an addict which frustrated me so much. Like, Carola.

Heather, I—

* For all the time Burke and Skye got to examine their trauma and issues in order to like flesh out their characters, Heather went through it and never got to like be pissed?? I guess that the author was trying to keep us from sympathizing with her but like damn. She definitely was manipulative and a piece of WORK but like I got it, I get it, and I want to give her a hug.

And then send her to therapy cause baby girl, you're f**king crazy.

Misc stuff that bothered me included the journal entries, cause I understood the point but no<3. I hated the way Burke and Skye's relationship was written cause that wasn't love. Stop making your characters one-dimensional and overly defined by their trauma. They are more than their hurt and could be wonderful.

Overall there was a vision for this book, but it certainly was not seen. And that's a wrap. ✧
