after two books of having their povs being hamfisted into narratives that are not theirs, I’m actually surprised that i’ve grown, quite slowly and sluggishly, fond of them—hastings more so than helena (helena’s selfishness for a spineless toad of a man was insufferable)! BUT. WHEN WILL SLURS STOP FOR ROMA PEOPLE. the way this book marks my 6th thomas histrom and she’s managed to avoid, from what i remember, slurs and the like that are often found from her peers but dear god . . . it’s in there. so beautiful prose aside, yeah it’s a three star story i cannae lie
