I love the tie-ins with Morton's other series but you can read this as a standalone. Reading it you get to know Oz, a gorgeous, headstrong and cheeky Irishman who deserves better in boyfriends then he has had before. And Silas, sweet, Earl of Cornwell with a shitty parenting past but so much love for his dilapidated home and all animals.
I feel for Oz' worry about class, education and feeling worth less because of where he comes from. I love Silas, determination to show they are just two people that need each other and all that other stuff doesn't matter one bit and that Oz is small, fierce and Silas' world!
All the talk about the sea, fixing up the old beautiful house and making relationships with a village is just lovely and makes me miss my heritage and family in Scotland just a little more.
